Check out what's new in Meribel for winter 2021/2022

What's new in Meribel this winter?

With ski lifts back in motion this winter, there is going to be a very special feeling in Meribel's air!

In Meribel as this special season approaches, the resort unveils the new features that will keep the resort's heart beting all along the winter. Let's take a look at it!

What's new on the ski area?!
  • Olympe ski lift: after almost 30 years of good service, the mythical Olympe gondolas have retired and been sold throughout France after a big sale in July! The new gondolas, taller, more modern and with an even more panoramic view of the valley have just been installed. If you know what the Saulire Express gondolas look like, you'll find them very similar!

  • Bouquetin chairlift: it was supposed to start running in December 2020 but Covid has delayed its official launch. It should then start taking skiers on top of Plattieres in early December 2021!

  • La piste des animaux: you all know this funny slope, on Altiport side, that presents mountain fauna all along that easy slope. This year, this kid's favorite has new wood sculptures and exhibits, for a more realistic experience!

WHO IS SETTING THE TABLE?
  • Lilie: born and raised in Meribel, Sylvain Chardonnet has taken the opportunity of his family hotel being turned into a residence to propose a brand-new restaurant, formerly known as Bistrot de l'Orée; when you change concept, better change name as well! And which name is better than your grand mother's, the one who has always inspired you?
If Sylvain leaves room to a great diversity of dishes (snacked octopus, confied aubergine, pizzas), Savoy specialities and Lilie's desserts have a special place in the menu (try the waffle!). And for those who'd rather have a yummy meal at their chalet or apartment, Lilie also proposes take-away meals as well as reasonnably priced wine bottes. https://www.lilie-meribel.com/
  • La Taniere (bear's den in French)precisely located down residence Creux de l'Ours, in Mottaret, this brand-new venue is looking to gather the amateurs of wines, beers and cocktails for an evening drink with tapas. And for those who are not filled yet, La Taniere also offers savoury fondues, crepes etc. During week-end days, it will be the perfect place to have a continental breakfast, available from 7am, to get some strenght before hitting the road... or the slopes!
  • Premieres loges: after the farewell of Cantine d'Alvar, welcome to Premieres Loges! If this new restaurant will replace the famous Chaudanne's Cantine, the recipe that made it a success should be kept. But with a major difference: Premieres Loges will also be open 5 evenings a week!
  • Le Monchu: this well-located restaurant by the slopes of Meribel has entirely been redesigned and the terrace has been extended. Whether you are looking to have a quick break or a long lunch on the sunny terrace, Monchu is a perfect stop-over. Did you know that the restaurant was open for dinner as well? No gondola needed to access it, but you will board your very private grooming machine! So do not hesitate to come discover the special "Savoy specialities" evening, on Wednesday, or the Steak&Wine Thursdays to taste high-quality meats with carefully-selected wines to get along. https://www.lemonchu-meribel.com/
A FEW ACTIVITIES...
  • Oxygene, the ski school celebrates its 30 years! But funnily enough, YOU are the ones to receive a present! For the opening, on December 4th and 5th, and on December, January and March 30th, they are offering a ski or snowboard lesson. Upon reservation. The ski school also proposes, from Monday to Thursday afternoons, several activities for kids: discovering of the mountain fauna, igloo building, avalanche beacon search etc. Mountain will keep no more secrets to you!
  • Rando apero: if you understand the French expression "Après l'effort, le réconfort !" ("after effort, let's get comfort!") then contact Oxygene ! Go up the slopes with snowshoes or skinned skis on and enjoy a nice aperitif once on top.

  • Laser rifle shooting: with Meribel's ESF ski school, come try laser rifle shooting and book it directly online.

  • Collective lessons for teenagers: we all know that: at this age, they prefer to gather with their own. That is why ESF now proposed collective courses only for teenagers!

  • Snow Camp, the power of powder! Snowboarders looking for the ultimate powder experience, this is for you! Along with your instructor, go tour the best freeride spots that have remained untouched by the other tourists.

  • Le Ranch nordique: horse-riding courses for both adults and kids, pony-sledding, horse-drawn skiing... Meribel's brand-new horse ranch proposed activities for everyone!

  • News activites proposed by the Tourist Office: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, meet at Meribel center, and at the Mottaret's Maison de la reserve by Tueda's lake on Tuesdays and Thursday to have some quality family time! Explor'Games, games in nature, ice carving, snowman building, fairy tales... contact the tourist office for more information.

In Meribel valley, everyone can have fun! Kids enjoy skiing at the kindergartens, at the Kenotheque, at the swimming-pool, at the ice rink, or during the kids shows; teenagers craving for riding experiences enjoy ESF's ski camps or dedicated collective lessons, and adults sweat during their ski touring outings, or chill out in local spas!
